A dedicated team comprised of four units who provide the residents of Plainfield with a cleaner, safer environment by promoting and managing the transport, treatment and disposal of solid waste materials while using effective collection procedures and encouraging our customers to take advantage of the collection systems and methods created specifically to make solid waste disposal more efficient and cost-effective. UNITS: __________________________________ Solid Waste Department Milton Murphy, Superintendent of Solid Waste The Solid Waste Department is responsible for the daily collection, transport and disposal of household garbage and recyclables. __________________________________ Bulky Waste Department Robert Kearney, Superintendent of Bulky Waste The Bulky Waste Department is responsible for collecting bulky waste from the residents of Plainfield. Pick-ups are scheduled by appointment only, and materials are brought to the Transfer Station to be weighed and transported for disposal. Our main concern is to assist residents in the safe and efficient removal of bulk items, therby helping reduce illegal dumping and excess debris. __________________________________ High Density Department Milton Murphy, Superintendent of High Density High Density Department is responsible for the collection, transport and disposal of solid waste and recycling materials for apartment complexes, businesses, offices, schools and other entities that utilize dumpsters (instead of carts) for garbage/recyclable disposal. __________________________________ Transfer Station & Roll-Off Container Services Robert Kearney, Superintendent of Transfer Station/Roll-Off Container Services The main function of the Transfer Station is to facilitate the proper disposal of all solid, bulky, and vegetative wastes collected from Plainfield residents and the Department of Public Works. In addition roll-off container services are also available to residents and contractors who need assistance in properly disposing of construction materials, bulky waste or similar items PMUA Outreach PMUA’s outreach programs, intiatives and partnerships are designed to educate and increase Plainfield citizens’ awareness of PMUA services, the importance of recycling, anit-litter causes, conservation and overall environmental quality of life issues. Through our School Outreach Programs, youth are taught to take pride in their community and global environment through increased recycling and anti-litter efforts. The Authority believes early and education awareness is key as students often in turn encourage their parents and guardians to also support their efforts toward a cleaner, greener quality of life. The PMUA also prides itself on cultivating positive partnerships with local government, business and civic organizations, for neighborhood and citywide clean-ups, environmental awareness outreach, and other community supportive co-ventures.
