Details for Contributions to Bobby Morris
January 5, 2012
Greetings,
We come to you today with well wishes for the New Year. May it be a blessing to you all.
As you may know, one of our employees, Mr. Robert “Bobby” Morris was a victim of an unfortunate crime during this holiday season. In the process of performing his duties, Bobby was struck by an apparent drunk driver, pinned between the garbage truck and the vehicle, and lost part of his leg. He is currently recovering at the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick New Jersey where he will undergo several surgeries, and extensive physical therapy.
We have received an outpouring of support for Bobby and numerous inquiries from many residents, churches and other community organizations about how they can help, since the road ahead will be very challenging for Bobby and his family. To assist in this matter, we have set up a separate segregated bank account entitled “The Bobby Morris Fund” to provide an avenue for those who would like to make a contribution. All funds received will be used for the sole purpose of providing financial support to Bobby and his family in this hour of need. If you are interested in making a contribution, no matter how small, please feel free to contact Bonnie Mills at (908) 226 – 2518, or send any financial gift made out to “The Robert “Bobby” Morris Fund” at:
Plainfield Municipal Utilities Authority (PMUA)
127 Roosevelt Avenue
Plainfield, NJ 07060
Attention: Bonnie Mills, Office of the Executive Director
We thank you in advance for any and all contributions towards The Robert “Bobby” Morris Fund and ask that you keep Bobby in your prayers for his physical and spiritual healing.

Message from the Executive Director
When I was appointed to serve as Executive Director of the Authority as of July 1, 2011, my immediate goal was to review the organizational structure and operations of the Authority to determine whether the Authority was operating as efficiently and economically as possible, and to determine what changes, if any, could be made to stabilize the Authority’s rates for Plainfield residents.
Based on the findings of my review and discussions with a consultant with significant expertise in operations similar to the Authority, we found that there are many hard working employees at the Authority who are truly dedicated to their work and provide a great service to the City’s residents. However, my findings also revealed that the Authority would need to significantly increase rates unless certain budgetary changes were immediately taken. The Board of the Authority and I viewed any increase in rates as unacceptable. Consequently, in an effort to avoid any rate increase in the upcoming year and to stabilize rates for Plainfield residents, the Authority decided to take several actions. These actions included a restructuring of the organizational structure of the Authority, the recent lay-off of 15 employees, a reduction in the use of outside consultants, and increased efforts to more effectively utilize shared service opportunities with other public agencies. The decision to proceed with lay-offs was very difficult and painful, particularly in today’s economy. However, such action was necessary and unavoidable.
Please be assured that the Authority remains committed to continuing to provide the same high quality of service that our customers have come to expect. The Authority also remains equally committed to continuing to find ways to operate more economically.
